Omar’s talk offer publicity stunt, hypocrisy: PDP
3/24/2009 12:14:06 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 23- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has termed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s offer of talks to Hurriyat Conference as hypocritical and an attempt to divert focus from the disastrous human rights situation and mis-governance in the state.
A spokesman of the party said here today, it is amusing to see the Chief Minister revert to talks offer at a time when his administration has unveiled the true character of its relationship with Kashmir society. “On the one hand security forces have been unleashing on hapless people and Kashmir is becoming a cesspool of miseries and on the other Omar Abdullah has started extending an olive branch for mere publicity mileage”, he said.
The spokesman said Omar lacks both moral and political authority to dabble in larger dimensions of Kashmir problem. He is heading a dispensation that is desisting from drafting a common program for fear of having to include Autonomy into it not to speak of his inability to expand his two month long cabinet. In its election campaign, the spokesman reminded, NC had vowed to restrict itself to local governance issues but failed even in that.
It is a mockery that NC should be inviting Hurriyat for talks when its own Autonomy proposal is lying in the dustbin, the spokesman said and wondered as to what Omar Abdullah could offer to separatists? Whose brief will he be carrying the spokesman asked? Will he be talking on behalf of his own local self government or the Union government which he has to petition almost on a daily basis for favours like fulfilling his promise of shifting an army camp from one village to another?
Reiterating the demand of the PDP to revoke AFSPA and send extra troops back to barracks, the spokesman said shifting a camp from one village to another is no solution and it has rightly been rejected by the people. He said the vastly improved situation in the state demands full revival of civil institutions and any delay in doing so can only put it in the reverse gear.
