| PDP demands hill development council for Poonch-Rajouri | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Mar 23- Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded creation of Hill Development Council for Rajouri-Poonch region to solve problems of the inhabitants of this border belt of the State. Addressing series of public meetings at Palma, Manoorgala, Kotranka and Budhal areas of Rajouri district, PDP general secretary Murtaza Khan, Choudhary Zulfikar, MLA Darhal, Yashpal Sharma and Falail Singh vociferously demanded hill development council for these two districts. The PDP leaders regretted that these two districts have been neglected in all spheres by the successive National Conference regimes. “Except three year tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, successive state governments neglected Poonch and Rajouri districts”, regretted Murtaza Khan and pointed out that it was only during the regime of PDP that especially attention was paid towards this belt. He demanded that a mechanism should be evolved to solve problems of inhabitants of these areas once for all. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Darhal, Choudhary Zulfikar said that due to its locational disadvantage that this area has been ignored so this belt needs specially attention. “Creation of hill development council is the only solution of all problems”, he said and advocated decentralization of power at grass root level. Senior leader Yashpal Sharma demanded construction of Mini Hydro Electric Power Projects in the regions. He specially mentioned that construction of the Aans hydroelectric project should be started as early as possible. He said that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as Chief Minister of the State had given specially attention to Poonch and Rajouri. Falail Singh, in his address, cautioned the people against evil designs of some vested interests who have launched a vicious campaign against PDP. Balbir Singh, Shahzad Khan, Munshi Alamdin, Ch. Mir Hussain, Jagat Ram, Manzoor Shah, Th. Wazir Singh, Mubarak Singh, Abdul Rashid and others addressed the meetings.
