GDC Pouni hosts symposium and signature campaign highlighting the role of youth and women in strengthening Indian Democracy

POUNI, Aug 31: In a landmark event aimed at empowering the youth and underscoring the vital role of women in Indian democracy, the Electoral Literacy Club of Government Degree College, Pouni, in collaboration with the District Nodal Officer SVEEP, Reasi, organized a series of impactful events. These included a poster-making competition on August 30, 2024, followed by a Signature Campaign and Symposium on August 31, 2024. The symposium focused on the theme, "The Role of Youth, Especially Women, in Strengthening Indian Democracy."
Under the able guidance of Dr. Udhay Bhanu, Principal of GDC Pouni, and coordinated by Dr. Prem Singh, Convener of the Electoral Literacy Club, the events witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and distinguished guests. This collective effort made the occasion a significant moment in the college's history.
The symposium opened with a welcome speech by Dr. Prem Singh, Head of the Political Science Department. The event commenced with the singing of the National Anthem and a Pledge-taking ceremony under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. Mr. Arun, a student from the 5th semester, served as the host for the event.
The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Sachin Sharma, Nodal Officer SVEEP, who was welcomed with a bouquet by Principal Dr. Udhay Bhanu as a gesture of respect. In his keynote address, Mr. Sachin emphasized the importance of youth engagement in democratic processes and highlighted the unique contributions women can make in leadership roles. His speech set the tone for the event, inspiring participants to recognize their potential in shaping the future of the nation.
Students passionately shared their views on democracy and gender equality, delivering speeches and creative presentations that showcased the power and promise of young leaders in strengthening Indian democracy.
The symposium concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. U S Liza, Head of the English Department. The Signature Campaign and Symposium on "The Role of Youth, Especially Women, in Strengthening Indian Democracy" were resounding successes, fostering a deeper understanding of democratic engagement and the essential role of women in leadership.
Government Degree College, Pouni, continues to be dedicated to promoting civic education and empowering the next generation of leaders, ensuring that youth, especially women, play a pivotal role in fortifying Indian democracy.
