Dr Subhash Chander joins National Conference, amplifies voice for POJK displaced community
9/2/2024 9:30:45 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 2: In a significant political development, Dr. Subhash Chander, a respected University Professor and prominent activist for the POJK (Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir) displaced community, has officially joined the National Conference (NC) Party of Jammu & Kashmir. The ceremony, held yesterday, was attended by a large gathering of his supporters and marked a pivotal moment for the marginalized sections of society in Jammu.
The event was presided over by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President (JKNC), Jammu province, who warmly welcomed Dr. Subhash Chander into the party. Shri Gupta emphasized the National Conference's dedication to uplifting and advocating for the rights of the POJK displaced community. He noted that Dr. Chander's inclusion in the party would significantly strengthen their efforts to address the longstanding issues faced by this marginalized group.
In his address, Dr. Subhash Chander expressed his concerns about the subtle political tactics employed by the current regime, which he believes have relegated his community to a mere vote bank. He passionately advocated for political representation for the POJK displaced community, which comprises approximately 7 lakh individuals in Jammu & Kashmir and around 13 lakh across the country. Dr. Chander stressed that only through adequate representation in legislative bodies can this community, long burdened by displacement, find the healing and support it urgently needs.
Dr. Chander also highlighted the strategic importance of the R.S Pura South and Suchetgarh assembly segments, which he represents. These segments alone are home to about 62,000 POJK displaced individuals, forming a substantial voter base with the potential to influence political outcomes significantly.
The joining ceremony was further dignified by the presence of Janab Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary JKNC Jammu province, and several other prominent leaders of the party. Their attendance underscored the importance of this political move and the renewed focus on addressing the challenges faced by the POJK displaced community.
