| IT Bar Association deputation calls on Mehta | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 23- A deputation of Income-tax Bar Association led by its President Advocate Sat Mehta met the visiting member of Central Board of Direct Taxes Government of India Sudhir Chandra and highlighted the problems being faced by practicing lawyers on the Income tax side. It was impressed upon the CBDT that due to stagnation since 1985 in the monetary limit as prescribed under section 44AB at Rs.40 lakh for businessmen and Rs.10 lakh for professionals even the small taxpayers have to face and go through the ordeal of Audit every year. Furthermore this stagnation is resulting into extinction of legal profession from the Income-tax map. A forceful demand was made to CBDT for recommending to the Central government to increase the monetary limit from Rs. 40 lakh to Rs. 1.5 crores in case of businessmen and from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh in case of professionals. Sudhir Chandra assured the deputation to take appropriate action in the matter soon. The other issues raised during discussion were Delay caused in issuance of refunds; pendency in disposal of matters like rectifications, adjustments and appeal effects and lukewarm response by the department. S.L. Mahajan ,R. K. Dogra, V.K .Grover, Vinod Suri, R.K. Mahajan , Ravinder Gupta, .M. Magotra, Vijay Dhawan, Dharam P. Gupta, Vikas Chopra and Amit Gupta were with the deputation. |
