Government Degree College hosts Fireless Cooking Competition to Mark National Nutrition Week

KATHUA, Sept 6: The Department of Home Science at Government Degree College, Kathua, organized a "Fireless Cooking Competition" to celebrate National Nutrition Week 2024. The event, supported by the college's Principal, Prof. Seema Mir, and Head of Department, Prof. Neelam Bhagat, aimed to raise awareness about healthy eating habits among college students. The competition focused on preparing nutritious recipes that cater to the dietary needs of young adults.
A total of eleven teams, each comprising two students, participated in the event, showcasing a variety of creative and healthy dishes in an artistic presentation. The dishes were judged based on their nutritional value, creativity, and presentation.
The top prizes were awarded to the following teams:
First Prize: Vishal and Shivika (Semester 5) for their Nutritious Thalli.
Second Prize: Palak and Babli (Semester 5) for their Makhana Bhel.
Third Prize: Diksha and Anu (Semester 5) for their Sattu Lemonade.
The judging panel, consisting of Dr. Shalini Sharma (HOD Biochemistry), Prof. Shivani Kotwal (HOD English), and Prof. Shradha Anand (Associate Professor, Chemistry), evaluated the dishes based on several criteria, including nutritional content, creativity, and aesthetics.
The event was attended by senior faculty members, including Prof. Sanjaky Kumar Karlupia (HOD Geology), Dr. R.K. Manhas, Dr. Ambika Rajput, and Prof. Rakhi Malhotra. The competition was coordinated by the organizing team of Prof. Neelam Bhagat, Dr. Anamika Baru, and Prof. Shivani Sawhney.
Principal Prof. Seema Mir commended the participants for their efforts and distributed prizes to the winners. She emphasized the importance of promoting nutritional awareness among students and praised the competition for encouraging creativity and decision-making skills. The event not only highlighted the importance of healthy eating but also provided students with a platform to explore their culinary talents and experiment with new, nutritious dishes.
