Multilingual poetic meet organized at MIER

Jammu, Mar 24- A Multilingual Poetic meet was organized at the MIER College of Education in the fond memory of Shanti Gupta, one of the eminent founders of MIER who apart from being a veteran educationist and social activist was a noted poetess and a prolific writer. This event was organized under the auspices of the Centre for Women Studies at MIER. On this occasion Dr. Ved Ghai, Head of the Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu and an active social reformer was the Chief Guest and Dr. Champa Sharma, a leading poet of Dogri was the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairman and Dr Renu Gupta Director MIER presided over the function.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER formally welcomed the eminent dignitaries present on the occasion and appraised the august gathering that the theme of the poetic meet was pertaining to “Women related Issues”. She also welcomed all the poets and poetesses who participated in this event. Dr. Arun K. Gupta in his address complimented the Centre for Women Studies, MIER for its outstanding accomplishments and expressed his firm belief that the dedication and commitment of the centre will pave the way for the establishment of a full fledged school of women studies. He also gave a brief life sketch of Shanti Gupta and read out one of her favourite poems on this occasion highlighting her poetic abilities.
In her inaugural remarks, the Chief Guest Dr. Ghai described MIER group of Institutes as a leader of Education in Jammu and praised the initiative of the Centre for Women Studies for organizing such congregations. She fondly remembered Shanti Gupta as a dynamic lady who was a educationist par excellence and a renowned poetess. She further expressed that such poetic meets should be held regularly in future also where local talent of the state is given a chance to exhibit their creativity.
The eminent poets who participated in the poetic meet were nationally acclaimed Dogri Poet Padma Shree Padma Sachdev, who enthralled the audience with her prolific writings, Prof. Champa Sharma, Dr. Nirmal Vinod, Inder Jit Kesar Dr. Aruna Sharma, Pritpal Singh Betab, Haji Nargis Sitara, Arsh Sehbai, Raj Paul Singh Mastana, Surinder Kaur, K.K. Shakir, Shamim Akhtar, and. Meenakshi Katyal.
