| Thousands witness cultural evening at Poonch. | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Poonch Mar 24-Thousands of people gathered here today to witness the second and concluding function of “Music and Dance Festival”. About 150 artists from all the three regions of the State mesmerized the audience with their spellbound performances held at Air Field. The event was specially designed and presented by the Jammu and Kashmir Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. The program was organized to commemorate the 150th year celebrations of war for India’s Independence. "We have gathered over 150 artists from the valley, Jammu and Ladakh to be part of this very important festival of bringing the cultural dimensions of the state to this remote and border district of the State," said Zafar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. In the backdrop of political tensions in his state, Manhas said it was all the more important to promote culture and art and bring people of the state close to each other through a cultural dialogue. The main attraction of the program was the Ladakhi marriage dance, in which 20 Ladakhi artists participated. A group of nomad Gujjars performed the much popular Gujjar dance on the occasion. The Kashmiri Rouf, Hafiz Nagma, Dhamali Dance, Dogri Jagarna and Kud were highly appreciated by the audience. Local Artists of Poonch also presented Pahari Dance on the occasion. |
