JAMMU, Sept 12: In a significant development for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Vikram Sahay, IRS, officially assumed charge as the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (PCIT) for the region. To commemorate this occasion, a delegation from the Jammu & Kashmir branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), led by Chairman CA Vineet Kohli, met with Sahay to extend their congratulations and discuss critical issues affecting the local tax administration.
The delegation included several esteemed members, including CA Nakul Saraf, Past Chairman of the J&K ICAI, alongside other notable Chartered Accountants and members of the Bar Council. During the meeting, they addressed various pressing concerns, particularly those related to pending appeals, rectifications, and the overall efficiency of income tax procedures in the region.
The professionals emphasized the challenges faced by taxpayers and sought Sahay's intervention in expediting the resolution of these issues. Sahay, in turn, assured the delegation of his commitment to resolving the problems faced by both taxpayers and professionals. He highlighted the significance of collaboration between the Income Tax Department and stakeholders, stating:
"We will work together to resolve grievances and ensure the smooth functioning of tax administration in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh."
Sahay also announced plans for a series of outreach programs aimed at educating taxpayers across Jammu & Kashmir on their rights, obligations, and available services. These initiatives aim to build a more informed and compliant taxpayer base, fostering transparency, efficiency, and fairness within the tax administration.
This meeting marks a positive step towards improved tax governance in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, ensuring better communication and collaboration between the authorities and stakeholders in the region.
