| Pardesi joins NC; great setback to PDP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 24- In a major political development, senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Ghulam Qadir Pardesi, who unsuccessfully contested assembly election from Sonwar constituency of Srinagar, on Tuesday deserted PDP to join the ruling National Conference. “I have joined National Conference since it is the traditional political party of the state and led by the visionary leaders like Omar Abdullah. I had some misunderstanding with the NC, but these have been cleared now,” Pardesi said, while addressing a news conference at Sher-I-Kashmir Bhawan on Tuesday evening. Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, senior NC leader and political advisor to CM, Devindar Rana and provincial president, Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta were present on the occasion. Welcoming the new entrant to the party, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah said that Pardesi was a grass root worker and an experienced and a visionary political leader. He said that NC will be benefited with the inclusion of Pardesi. Reacting to the statement of PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Syed, Omar said that the PDP patron was frustrated with the performance of the coalition government. He said that his government believes in action, rather than words. “Mufti and his party are frustrated. People know that we believe in actions, not words,” Omar said. When asked about the selection of party candidates in the coming up assembly and parliamentary elections, Omar said that his party was consulting its ally Congress party in this regard and the announcement of the candidates will be announced shortly. He said that the state government will ensure the safety and security of the people and the candidates in the coming elections. Expressing displeasure over the comments of the BJP candidate Varun Gandhi, Omar said that it was unfortunate that an educated and knowledgeable person like Varun Gandhi has hurt the sentiments of Muslims with his speech. Commenting on the encounters that are going on in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, CM said that after the 26/11 Mumbai attack the launching pads across the LoC were deactivated .He said the launching pads have again been activated and militants were infiltrating into this side. He said that the security forces were ready to face any challenge. |
