BJP eyes 8 seats in Chenab region, chooses Doda for PM Modi’s rally

Jammu, Sept 13: With eying on eight assembly seats of the Chenab region, the BJP has selected Doda town as a venue for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first election rally in Jammu and Kashmir.
The rally is strategically located in Doda town, which is central to the Chenab region comprising Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts. The BJP high command aims to spread the party's message in this mountainous region through the Prime Minister's rally.
The visit is expected to enhance the electoral prospects of BJP candidates in the region, with party sources confident in the Prime Minister's ability to sway voters. Security has been tightened in the Chenab Valley region, with a high alert sounded and additional forces deployed in Doda town ahead of the Prime Minister's visit.
The BJP has high stakes in the Chenab region, where it won four Assembly segments in the 2014 elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address a rally in Doda town, Jammu division, on Saturday, September 14, to boost the BJP's election campaign in Jammu and Kashmir. This will be his first campaign event in the union territory since the Assembly polls were announced.
The BJP is trying its best to improve its position in the Chenab region comprising Kishtwar, Inderwal, Padder-Nagsani, Doda, Doda West, Bhaderwah, Ramban, and Banihal Assembly segments.
In the 2014 Assembly elections, BJP had created history by winning the Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, and Bhaderwah Assembly segments.
Former Minister and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma is contesting the election on the newly carved Paddar-Nagsani seat while another ex-minister Shakti Parihar is trying his luck on the Doda West Assembly segment.
Apart from retaining the four seats of 2014, the BJP this time is trying to win Kishtwar and Doda east seats to improve its rally to six.
