IEI Jammu Celebrates 57th Engineers’ Day

Jammu, Sept 15: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre, celebrated the 57th Engineers’ Day at its Institutional Complex in Channi Himmat, Jammu. The event, organized to commemorate the 163rd birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, saw the participation of prominent engineers from various departments and organizations.
Er. Sandeep Gupta, IRSE, Chief Administrative Officer (Northern Railway) of the USBRL Project in J&K, was the Chief Guest. Er. Bimal Kumar Tickoo, FIE, Former Secretary (Technical) cum Development Commissioner (Works) PWD (R&B), J&K Government, served as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, FIE, Chairman, and Er. Sachin Tickoo, MIE, Honorary Secretary of IEI Jammu Local Centre, presided over the event, which was attended by a large gathering of engineers.
The theme for this year’s Engineers’ Day, “Driving Sustainability with Engineering Solutions Embracing the Latest AI-driven Technologies,” highlighted the crucial role of engineering in addressing global challenges. In her welcome address, Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma emphasized how artificial intelligence and sustainable engineering practices are key to solving modern problems.
The event also honored several distinguished engineers. Er. A K Nagpal, FIE, Former Chairman of IEI Jammu Local Centre, received the prestigious IEI Award for his outstanding service to the engineering profession. The R. L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal was awarded to Er. Joy Ganjoo for presenting the best technical paper, while the Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal and IEI Bronze Medal were presented to Er. B. L. Rawal and Er. Ranjeev Sawhney, respectively.
During the event, Er. Sandeep Gupta delivered an in-depth presentation on the USBRL Project, which includes world-class engineering feats like the Chenab Bridge, the highest railway bridge in the world, and the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed bridge. Several technical papers were also presented on the event’s theme, and the 22nd volume of the quarterly “IEI Jammu News” was released by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Er. Sachin Tickoo, who acknowledged the significant contributions of J&K engineers in shaping the Union Territory’s infrastructure and expressed gratitude to all attendees for making the celebration a resounding success.
