RAMGARH, Sept 18: Govt. Degree College, Ramgarh organized an interactive cum awareness session on the theme "Changing the narrative on Suicide" to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day. The event aimed to educate and empower students and faculty about the critical issues surrounding mental health and suicide prevention.
The programme was held under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjli Andotra, Principal of the college. She welcomed all attendees and emphasized the importance of open conversations about mental health issues.
The resource person for the session, Dr. Shabila Wani, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at GDC Samba, delivered an informative lecture addressing the various factors that can lead to suicidal thoughts and behaviors. She outlined practical ways to identify warning signs and provided guidance on how to support individuals in distress, emphasizing that understanding and compassion can play a vital role in prevention.
She also interacted with students, encouraging them to ask questions and share their thoughts. This open dialogue not only enriched the session but also strengthened connections and support among attendees. She also provided helpline numbers where students can confidentially share their problems and seek solutions for issues they may feel uncomfortable discussing with parents or friends. Lastly, memento was presented to the resource person as a token of appreciation for her valuable insights and contributions to the session.
All faculty members and students of the college actively participated in the event.
