Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 23: As BJP is vociferously raking up the statement of Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif to corner Congress in the crucial Jammu region ahead of the third phase of polling, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday avoided touching the controversial issue of Article 370.
During his two elections rallies in Surankot and Srinagar in favour of party candidates Shahnawaz Choudhary and Tariq Hamid Karra, Rahul Gandhi did not touch the issue of Article 370.
His speech in both rallies focussed only on the restoration of statehood and
economic issues related to Jammu and Kashmir. He again raked up the issue of locals versus non-locals without touching the issue of restoring Article 370.
As reported earlier, Khawaja Ashif sparked controversy by stating that Article 370 could be reinstated in Jammu and Kashmir if the Congress-National Conference alliance wins the ongoing Assembly elections.
This statement has led to a massive debate amidst intense electioneering in Jammu and Kashmir.
Rahul Gandhi, slammed the BJP for downgrading Jammu and Kashmir from a state to a Union Territory. Addressing a rally in Surankote, Gandhi vowed to pressure the central government to restore J&K’s statehood after the assembly elections. He criticized the BJP-led government for ruling J&K from Delhi, benefiting select industrialists, and spreading divisiveness.
Gandhi promised to be the voice of J&K people in Parliament and highlighted the Congress’s commitment to unity and harmony. He also lambasted PM Modi’s policies, citing demonetization and flawed GST, which he said crippled small businesses and ignored farmers, laborers, and students.
With assembly elections underway, Gandhi reassured J&K residents that their demand for statehood wouldn’t be ignored. If the BJP doesn’t restore statehood, Congress and its allies will ensure it happens.
Gandhi expressed disappointment over the closure of major industries, including the HMT watch factory in J&K. He noted that despite high educational qualifications, J&K youth struggle to find jobs due to the Modi government’s economic mismanagement.
With assembly elections underway in J&K, Gandhi reassured residents that their demand for statehood wouldn’t be ignored. If the BJP doesn’t restore statehood, Congress and its allies will ensure it happens.
