JALANDHAR, Sept 27: Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament, (Rajya Sabha) has been appointed to the prestigious Committee on Finance under the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committees (DRSCs) from 2024 onwards. Previously, he was a member of the External Affairs Committee.
The DRSCs serve as mini parliaments, comprising representatives from various political parties, and play a critical role in overseeing the functioning of different ministries. The Committee on Finance is particularly significant, as it provides legislative oversight on financial policies, taxation, banking and insurance. Its responsibilities include examining bills, reviewing policy documents, and scrutinizing budgetary demands from the Ministry of Finance and departments.
Dr. Mittal joins an esteemed group of committee members, including former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, and Manish Tewari, former Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Shri Bhartruhari Mahtab will serve as the Committee Chairman.
Upon his appointment, Dr. Mittal expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am honoured to be part of the Committee on Finance. It is a privilege to contribute to such an essential aspect of our nation's governance. I look forward to addressing the financial challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and working towards ensuring the continued progress of India's economy."
