GDC Udhampur Commemorates Gandhi Jayanti

UDHAMPUR, Sept 28: In a spirited tribute to the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, Government Degree College, Udhampur proudly organized inter-college Essay Writing , slogan writing, seminar, Bhajan recitation and Reel making Competitions in connection with Gandhi Jayanti Celebration for the year 2024, in which GCW Udhampur, GDC Neeli Nallah, GDC Ramnagar, GDC Majalta and GDC Udhampur participated. This prestigious event brought together students from these esteemed colleges across the Udhampur district, fostering an atmosphere of intellectual engagement and creative expression.
The competition, themed around the core principles of Truth, non-Violence and Gandhijee teachings attracted enthusiastic participation from numerous colleges, showcasing the talents and insights of students on topics deeply rooted in India's socio-political landscape. Each participant exhibited exceptional knowledge and analytical skills, enriching the discourse surrounding Gandhi's teachings and their relevance in contemporary society.
The events were inaugurated with an inspiring address by Principal Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma, whose visionary leadership continues to propel GDC Udhampur towards academic excellence. Dr. Verma emphasized the importance of Gandhi's philosophy in today's world, stating that Mahatma Gandhi's teachings of truth and non-violence are not merely historical reflections but are vital principles that can guide our actions and decisions in modern society. This competition serves as an opportunity for students to engage with these ideals, fostering a deeper understanding of our shared heritage.
The organizing committees for various events were framed. Prof. Tania Akhtar and Prof. Nitika Mahajan convened the event of essay writing, Dr. Revika and Prof Pooja Bhajan recitation, Dr. Anju and Prof Anoksha for seminar, Dr. Sumati and Dr. Richa Sharma for slogan writing and Prof. Asha and Prof. Nikita for reel making. The members worked diligently to ensure the success of all the events.
As the competitions unfolded, students passionately articulated their perspectives on the main theme, 'Challenges, and Solutions inspired by Gandhian Philosophy" through well-crafted essays, slogans and seminars that delved into various aspects of Gandhi's philosophy, its modern context, and its impact on contemporary society. The enthusiasm displayed by the participants is a testament to their dedication and passion for learning. The submissions were rigorously evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges from different colleges who commended the participants for their creativity, depth of understanding, and eloquence.
The event culminated with the declaration of the winner of the competitions Miss Ishita Sharma of GCW Udhampur emerged as the winner of essay competition, in Bhajan recitation first position was bagged by Lakash Dogra of GDC Udhampur . 2nd prize was awarded to Anshika Gupta of GCW Udhampur and 3rd prize was shared by Preeti Devi of GDC Ramnagar and Bhushan of GDC Chenani. In continuum to the above on 28th September intercollegiate slogan writing and reel making competitions were conducted in the college in which all the colleges of the district Udhampur participated, slogan writing competition was organized by Dr. Richa Gupta and Dr. Sumati Anthal in which Madhia Mir of GDC Neeli Nallah got first and Sargam Jamwal of GCW Udhampur got second, the slogans were adjudged on basis of originality and presentation by Prof. Shobhna Sambyal and Prof. Yash. In Reel making Stuti Sharma of GCW Udhampur got first prize and the competition was organized under the leader ship of Prof. Asha Sohail and Dr. Nikita and was adjudged by Prof. Yash and Prof. Anoksha.
The winners of these intercollegiate competitions will further participate in Divisional level competition. The successful execution of the inter-college Competitions underscores the dedication of GDC Udhampur to nurture the intellectual and extra curricular capabilities of its students and engaging them in meaningful dialogues about Gandhian Philosophy and its relevance at the present time and in the times to come. By commemorating Gandhi Jayanti in such an impactful manner, the college has created a lasting impression that resonates with the values championed by the Father of the Nation.
