| Finance Comm. discusses augmentation of States’ resources | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 26- The State Finance Commission today held a series of meetings with the senior functionaries of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Excise and Taxation, Higher Education and State Motor Garages departments. Convened by the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Mehmood-ur-Rehman, other members of the Commission, S. R. Sharma, Dr. Nisar Ali and Sonam Dawa, consultants B.K. Suri and G.R. Malik besides, Commissioner Excise Pradeep Gupta and other senior government functionaries were present also in the meetings. During the meetings, financial matters, expenditure compression measures and augmentation of resources available in the State were discussed threadbare. The State Finance Commission is looking into public grievances on regional disparities and imbalances in the State and measures that need to be taken for macro-economic stability, debt reduction and compliance of the fiscal responsibility and budgetary management in the State. The Commission is also investigating the problem of unemployment and under-employment in the State and the present policy of recruitment. The Commission has come out with a “development deprivation index” at district and sub-district level and has also developed criteria on devolution of resources to urban and rural local bodies based on social and economic indicators as suggested by the 12th Finance Commission of Government of India. |
