Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 30: In alignment with the “Swachhta Hi Seva-2024” campaign, which runs from September 14 to October 1, 2024, the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), Regional Office Jammu, under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Government of India, took a significant step towards promoting cleanliness and hygiene in the community. The campaign, themed “Swabhav Swachhta-Sanskaar Swachhta,” aims to raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and eco-friendly living practices.
Under the supervision of Shri R. K. Sharma, Assistant Director, and Smt. Lata Raina, Administrative Officer, the NSSO organized an awareness rally in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The rally, which saw the participation of around 60-70 NSSO officers and officials, aimed to educate the public about the benefits of hygiene and sanitation while encouraging eco-friendly lifestyle changes, such as avoiding single-use plastics and responsibly disposing of waste.
The rally commenced at the NSSO office premises in Gandhi Nagar and made its way through the surrounding areas, culminating at Green Belt Park. During the rally, NSSO staff distributed pamphlets to the public, providing information on ongoing surveys and urging citizens to cooperate with NSSO field staff when approached for data collection. Additionally, officers emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces and promoting the use of clean and hygienic toilets.
In conjunction with the rally, the NSSO Jammu office also organized a “Shramdhan” event, where staff participated in an indoor and outdoor cleanliness drive at their office premises. This initiative reinforced the message of the ongoing cleanliness campaign, encouraging continuous efforts to keep the environment clean and hygienic.
Assistant Director Shri R. K. Sharma and Administrative Officer Smt. Lata Raina highlighted the importance of such rallies in raising awareness and maintaining cleanliness as a civic duty. They stressed the need for ongoing awareness campaigns to ensure the community stays committed to upholding hygiene and sanitation standards.
The “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign, a nationwide initiative, is an effort to inspire citizens to take an active role in maintaining cleanliness in public spaces, such as parks, rivers, ponds, schools, and hospitals, contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment.
