POONCH, Sept 30: In a firm effort to counter the rising drug menace, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal chaired a district-level NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre) meeting today, focusing on strengthening both preventive education and enforcement measures across the district. The meeting brought together stakeholders from various sectors to review and enhance strategies aimed at combating drug abuse in the region.
During the meeting, the DC highlighted the crucial role of educational institutions in raising awareness about the dangers of drug use.
He directed the Principal of Degree College Poonch and the Chief Education Officer (CEO) to organize a series of seminars and special lectures to educate students and the public about the detrimental effects of substance abuse.
He emphasized the need for engaging not only students but also parents, creating a community-wide push towards a drug-free lifestyle.
DC Poonch instructed law enforcement agencies to intensify their vigilance by conducting random inspections in public places.
He called for swift and decisive action against those involved in drug-related activities, stressing that a zero-tolerance approach is critical in deterring drug peddlers.
The departments present at the NCORD meeting apprised the DC of the various ongoing initiatives in the district aimed at drug prevention.
These include community outreach programs, awareness drives, and public engagement efforts that address both the supply and demand side of the drug problem.
He urged all departments to work in synergy to strengthen the district’s efforts in combating this serious issue.
The meeting was attended by ADC Poonch, Tahir Mustafe Malik, SDMs of Mendhar and Surankote, Chief Education Officer Poonch, Lal Hussain, and other officers.
