JAMMU, Sept 30: To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, the NSS Unit "Cheshta" of GLDM Government Degree College (GDC), Hiranagar organized a series of events that highlighted Gandhian values and principles under the able guidance Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college. The events were coordinated by NSS Advisor Prof. Rakesh Kumar and NSS Program Officer Prof. Shapia Shameem. These activities aimed to promote Gandhian values of peace, non-violence, and service to society. Various programs such as Bhajan singing competition, Poster making competition and seminar on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi were conducted, engaging students in commemorating the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. The event not only honored the Father of the Nation but also encouraged the students to adopt and practice Gandhian principles in their daily lives.
The celebration included Bhajan Singing, Traditional devotional songs associated with Mahatma Gandhi, were sung to evoke a sense of peace, non-violence, and unity, values that Gandhi cherished.
A creative poster-making competition was held, where students showcased their artistic talents to express Gandhian thoughts, his life, and his contributions to India's freedom struggle. In addition, a seminar was conducted focusing on the relevance of Gandhi's teachings in today's world. Speakers emphasized non-violence (Ahimsa), truth (Satya), and other Gandhian philosophies that continue to inspire people globally.
This initiative by the NSS unit helped students engage in activities that deepened their understanding of Mahatma Gandhi's ideologies, while also fostering creativity. Prof.Ganga Sharma ,HOD Dogri and Prof. Shivani Slathia,HOD Education department were the jury members for all the competitions. Babita of semester 5th, Shivani Sharma and Anita of semester 3rd were adjudged as Position holders for the above competitions. Faculty members who graced the occasion were Prof. Amit Kumar sharma, Prof. Neeru Sharma, Prof. Farzana & Prof. Balvinder Kour. Saloni, Arti devi, Komal Rani, Tamana Khajuria, Neha Sharma, Waseem, Aman, Chetan, Nitan, Akhil and Rajan were the student Managers
