KVK organises training programme on commercial floriculture

REASI, Oct 1: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu organised training programme on "Entrepreneurship Development in Floriculture" here today at Bhaga village in Reasi district of J&K which was attended by a number of farmers and farm women of the area.The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.B.N.Triptahi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Dr.Banarsi Lal,Chief Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of the farmers. He gave a detail view of the scientific floriculture and said the farmers that they can enhance their income by adopting the scientific practices for commercial floriculture. He educated the farmers on the importance of floriculture in the monkey prone areas as the crop is not damaged by the monkeys.He stressed on the commercial floriculture. He informed the farmers that floriculture has ample scope in the area as there is great demand of marigold flowers in the religious spots like Shri Mata Vaishno Devi , Shiv Khori shrine and other places in the area. He motivated the farmers for the entrepreneurship development in floriculture and guided them that they can fetch more prices by the adoption of advance technologies in floriculture. He educated the farmers for the scientific cultivation of marigold. He demonstrated the nursery raising techniques in marigold and elaborated Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) in marigold. He also demonstrated the fields of marigold crop to the farmers and highlighted the scientific technologies for the commercial floriculture. He informed the farmers about the open pollinated/hybrid varieties of marigold and recommended certain diseases and insect-pests management practices for marigold crop.He stressed on the nipping in marigold to get more yield. He also discussed on the protected cultivation of floral crops and encouraged the farmers to have low cost polyhouse units at their farms to get more yield of flowers throughout the year. The scientist motivated the farmers by giving the success stories of some progressive floriculturists in the region. The farmers were highly appreciated the efforts of KVK for promotion of commercial floriculture in the area. In this programme an awardee floriculturist, Sh. Shail Singh was also present who shared his experiences on commercial floriculture with the other participants. In this training programme various quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientist answered in a very satisfactorily way. The programme was concluded by Manohar Lal with formal vote of thanks.
