Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 1: With an aim to ensure that every eligible voter exercise his democratic right, the Election Commission of India has established 240 special polling stations in third and final phase of Assembly Election in Jammu and Kashmir.
"To conduct free, fair and peaceful elections under the guidance of Election Commission of India amid numerous challenges, varying geographical, social and political conditions across Jammu and Kashmir, it was essential that the voters are fully conscious about their rights and obligations as electors and are made fully aware of the statutory provisions under which the election machinery operates. This necessitated the establishment of these special polling booths in the UT which had really significant impact in the whole election process", maintained the J&K Chief Electoral Officer, Pandurang K Pole.
The CEO asserted that these special polling stations are theme-based, and in some areas, efforts were made to go the extra mile to reach voters and maximize participation. The decorated booths, fundamental to the entire election process, play a significant role in making the festival of democracy a success, he added. He said that these innovative polling stations, such as women-managed, youth-managed, Green Polling Stations, Model Polling Stations, Border and Unique Polling Stations, were designed to cater specifically to women, youth, Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), promote eco-friendly practices, ensure inclusive and accessible election and accommodate the voters of different kinds in the region.
"During all the three phases of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election, a total of 504 special polling stations had been established", added the CEO. Furthermore, the ECI's commitment towards environmental sustainability has been showcased through the implementation of green practices at these polling stations. Every aspect is meticulously designed to minimize environmental impact and promote a greener future.
Speaking on this milestone initiative, Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Pandurang K Pole, said that establishment of these unique polling stations underscores our unwavering dedication towards fostering inclusivity and sustainability in the electoral process. He added that the ECI believes that every citizen should have equal access to exercise their democratic right, and these polling stations represent a significant step towards achieving that goal.
