GGM Science College pays tributes to Mahatma Gandhi

JAMMU, Oct 2: GGM Science College, under the supervision and guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, organized a solemn and heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Lala Hans Raj Mahajan (Sher-e-Duggar) on their birth anniversaries. The event was organized by the NSS volunteers under the supervision of NSS Program Officer Dr. Rahul Kait, in collaboration with Dr. Ashaq Hussain, Co-Convener of the Cultural, Seminars, and Debate Committee of the College.
The occasion featured a range of activities including speeches, skits on communal harmony, and a painting competition, highlighting the achievements and contributions of these three iconic leaders. Students actively participated in the events, paying homage to the values of peace, simplicity, and social reform championed by these historical figures. Dr. Seema Gandotra convener Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict studies of the College along with other members Dr. Shalni Sharma, Prof. Sunita Kumari and Prof. Mehnaz Banoo also participated in another function held at GCW Parade Ground Jammu on eve of Gandhi Jyanti which was marked by a special address by Hon'ble LG of J&K Sh. Manoj Sinha via online mode.
Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Gupta while addressing the students in the College emphasized the significance of Mahatma Gandhi's teachings in uniting society against divisive forces and fostering national integration. He also reflected on Lal Bahadur Shastri's invaluable contributions to the nation, particularly his dedication to honesty, simplicity, and the Gandhian philosophy, and his famous slogan, "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan."
Dr. Gupta also paid tribute to Lala Hans Raj Mahajan, affectionately known as Sher-e-Duggar, calling him a prominent leader in Jammu's history. He praised Mahajan's lifelong dedication to social reform, his fight against social evils such as dowry, child marriage, and untouchability, and his advocacy for widow remarriage and social justice. Mahajan's efforts to promote Khadi and his role in the Swadeshi movement were also highlighted, along with his significant contributions to education and infrastructure in Jammu, including his role in the establishment of GGM Science College and the construction of the Chenab River Bridge at Akhnoor.The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving participants inspired by the legacies of these three remarkable leaders.
