Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 2: In line with Mahatma Gandhi's vision for a cleaner and greener India, the Indian Army organized a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Tree Plantation Drive on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti. The initiative aimed to enhance cleanliness and promote environmental sustainability within the community, reflecting the core values Gandhi espoused.
The event began with a cleanliness drive, where participants, including students, local residents, and community leaders, came together to emphasize the importance of hygiene and sanitation. Volunteers actively engaged in cleaning up the surroundings, collecting litter, and spreading awareness about the significance of maintaining a clean environment.
Following the cleanup, a tree plantation drive took place at Lam School, where more than 32 saplings were planted, symbolizing a commitment to environmental preservation and expanding green spaces. During the event, students were educated on the vital role trees play in combating climate change and supporting biodiversity.
The Indian Army's initiative sought to inspire a sense of responsibility among citizens for maintaining clean and green surroundings. The event concluded with students and teachers collectively pledging to uphold cleanliness and environmental stewardship.
A total of 68 students, 7 teachers, and 10 civilians participated in the event with great enthusiasm. The Indian Army remains committed to promoting sustainability through similar future initiatives, fostering a culture of environmental care within the community.
