Karra remains silent on qualification of PDP as like-minded party

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 2: The Congress Party in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday remained silent on whether the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a “like minded party” or not and would the NC-Cong alliance extend an invitation to the PDP if the need arises.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress’ Committee (JKPCC) Chief extended open invitation to all the “like minded parties” without naming who are the parties that can join the Congress-NC alliance.
JKPCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra while talking to the reporters here said, “If the need arises, our doors are open for all like-minded people, forces, parties and even individuals. We can discuss this with our alliance partner so that we can talk to such people if there is a need.”
When asked whether the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a “like minded party,” Karra said he would not like to qualify anyone.” “I have said like-minded, on the same page against BJP’s repressive, oppressive policies,” he added.
Karra claimed that the people of J&K have voted in favour of the NC-Congress alliance and exuded hope that they would form the next government in the Union Territory. “What we can see is that the people have voted in favour of the alliance or to keep the BJP out of power corridors, which is a good thing,”
Asked if the independent candidates could emerge as the kingmakers after the poll results are announced on October 8, Karra said they see independents as “spoilers”.
When the Centre realised that all their experiments and formulas had failed, “they implemented a novel way to fragment votes here by fielding independents”, the Congress leader charged.
