| PDP gave sense of security to people: Mufti | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 27- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said that his party worked successfully in transferring power to the people. “PDP has given a powerful and assertive voice to the oppressed people of the State,” he said. Addressing the party workers from Sonawar constituency here today, Sayeed said PDP not only gave a sense of security to the people but also worked towards their political and economic emancipation. “It is because of the PDP’s pro-people policies that people in all the regions and sub-regions of the State today feel empowered to raise their voice against the injustices they were subjected to over the years,” he said and added that the political monopoly that had strangled the people’s supremacy ceases to exist now. Asking the National Conference (NC) leadership to realize the change in State’s political landscape and adopt itself to this new scenario, Sayeed said his party would in no case allow the government to betray the people’s interests and would ensure justice to all sections of society. “We will make the Government to deliver on its commitments as we have been, as a strong opposition, mandated to represent the genuine and just concerns of the masses,” he said. The PDP Patron said his party would ensure that the Government not only respects its assurance to uphold the human rights and civil liberties, but also delivers on the commitments made with the people on the economic, development and governance fronts. Sayeed said the recent tragic incidents at Bomai, Nowhatta and Khaigam seem to have vitiated the atmosphere and there is an urgent need to address the people’s genuine concerns. “The Government of India shall have to take concrete steps to restore the people’s confidence,” he said and added that the measures like scrapping of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and sending the troops, deployed on internal security duties, back to the barracks can’t be avoided now. PDP leaders Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Abdul Razaq Zaoora, Basharat Bukhari, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Bashir Assad and others were also present on the occasion. |
