Three-day training program for laboratory technicians concludes under IDSP

JAMMU, Oct 5: A three-day comprehensive training program for laboratory technicians from the Jammu division concluded today at the Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Organized under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and the National Health Mission (NHM), the training took place from October 3 to October 5, 2024.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Rakesh Magotra, Director of Health Services Jammu, and supervised by Dr. Harjeet Rai, Epidemiologist and State Surveillance Officer (IDSP), Jammu Division, and Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, Medical Superintendent of Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The primary objective of the training was to enhance the laboratory technicians' skills in disease detection, reporting, and response, with a special focus on strengthening the integrated disease surveillance system. The program included a combination of theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations to ensure a well-rounded learning experience.
Resource persons, including Dr. Ruchita Mahajan, Consultant Microbiologist at Gandhi Nagar Hospital Jammu, Dr. Megha Sharma, Pathologist at Gandhi Nagar Hospital, and Mr. Ajay Kumar, State Microbiologist (IDSP Jammu), provided training on advanced diagnostic techniques, proper sample collection, data handling, and reporting procedures aligned with IDSP protocols. Special emphasis was placed on preparing laboratories to detect and respond swiftly to disease outbreaks in the region.
Dr. Harjeet Rai, while addressing the participants, underscored the critical role laboratory technicians play in the early detection and prevention of disease outbreaks. He highlighted that continued skill development and training are vital in bolstering public health infrastructure. Dr. Rai also commended the active participation and enthusiasm of the attendees.
This training initiative is part of the Directorate of Health Services Jammu's ongoing efforts to enhance public health capacities and establish a robust disease surveillance mechanism across the Jammu division.
