| Husband facing trial in dowry death case granted bail | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Mar 27- Principal Sessions Judge Jammu SS Sarangal granted bail to Surinder Singh husband of deceased Rita Devi who committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance on September 16, 2007.
Court after considering the facts and circumstances of the case observed that the bail application of the accused Surinder Singh is allowed and he is admitted to bail on his furnishing surety bond to the tune of Rs 30000 and personal bond on the like amounts. As the offence with which the petitioner/accused is charged with is not the offence where the punishment is death or life. The accused facing trial for the commission of offence u/s 306 (abetment to suicide) and 498-A RPC (cruelty), the allegation against the petitioner/accused and other two accused is that a year after marriage of the deceased Rita Devi with the petitioner/accused, they started harassing the deceased on demand of more dowry from the deceased (wife of the accused). In the month of September 2007 allegedly accused demanded Rs 20000 from the deceased whereas her parents could arrange only Rs 10,000 and the accused persons compelled her to bring remaining Rs 10,000, the behavior of the accused compelled the deceased to commit suicide by consuming poisonous substance.
At present the accused facing trial ands lodged in judicial custody has filed this bail application through Advocate RS Jamwal on various grounds including that the accused is behind the bars for the last more than one year and facing trial regularly .JNF |
