Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 5: Amid reports of the exit polls by different channels and survey agencies, the top leadership of the Congress approached the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for the formation of a grand alliance.
Although most of the exit polls predicted that the National Conference-Congress alliance would be in a position to form the government, the Grand-old Party wants the PDP should also be part of the government to ensure stability and strength of the regime.
Highly placed sources said that senior leaders of the Congress are already in touch with the PDP leadership, especially former Chief Minister and chief of the party Mehbooba Mufti.

As reported earlier by this newspaper, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has already called PDP as an important constituent of the INDIA alliance. He made it clear that the PDP is not a rival in Jammu and Kashmir despite the fact that the party (PDP) was not part of the alliance in Assembly elections.
Ramesh had expressed confidence that the National Conference-Congress alliance would secure a clear majority but also hinted at the possibility of partnering with the PDP if they fall short of some seats. Notably, the PDP is part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) but has been excluded from the Congress-National Conference alliance in Jammu and Kashmir.
