| APHC not to interfere in Lok Sabha poll process | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 27- Possibilities of unification of the two factions of the Hurriyat Conference seem to be remote. This became evident when the hardliners headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani decided to enforce their call for poll boycott whereas the moderates, headed by Molvi Umar Farooq, plan to watch the Lok Sabha poll process on the fence. Inside reports said that even the Pakistani officials who interacted with the Hurriyat leaders in Delhi recently suggested to them that they should keep away from the poll process which was simply aimed at providing water, electricity, jobs and roads to the people. According to Molvi Abbas Ansari, a senior APHC leader, "we have decided to avoid interfering in the election process because we know the poll process has no bearing on the Kashmir issue.” He said even if people vote furring the ensuing Lok Sabha election it would not mean that they have voted in favour of state's accession with India. Molvi Ansari said that time has come when India and Pakistan should start sustained and result oriented dialogue for settling the Kashmir issue which was key to peace in South Asia. In reply to a question, the Molvi said that unity between the two factions was possible provided the other side was accommodative. |
