While the expansion in the shape of opening more colleges and polytechnics was all right but first of all the Government should build the basic infrastructure in the institutions that have already been opened. Referring to the government plan 36 new degree colleges in the state, Harsh Dev said that he was not opposed to the move but what was needed was that the Government should provide the basic infrastructure. He said during the three years he was the Education Minister, 22 colleges were opened in the state and he saw to it that teachers were posted in all the colleges. In addition to this, funds were earmarked for developing laboratory and library facilities. He said against this the Congress led Government opened 18 colleges but all these colleges were not provided with the basic infrastructure and most of the colleges had no staff. Meanwhile, official sources said that the Government of India has agreed to finance a project under which each district will have one polytechnic so that those who come out of these institutes were able to get suitable jobs. The sources said that the Centre had also agreed to set up one Central University and one IIM in Jammu and Kashmir. In addition to this, the ITIs in the state were to be strengthened and made industry and market oriented. At least 27 ITIs were to be upgraded under public- private collaboration. |
