| Amid tight security, Navratra festival begins in JK | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, MAR 27: Large number of devotees thronged the different temples in Jammu to offer special prayers and pay their obescience to Godess Durga on the occasion of first Navratra, today. All the City temples were tastefully decorated befitting the occasion. There was a heavy rush of pilgrims in Mata Kali Temple at Bhawe from early in the morning. People were waiting in long queues to have the darshan of Godess and offer pooja archana. The authorities had made elaborate arrangements for the darshan of yatris. Heavy rush of devotees was also seen at Maha Maya temple in Bhawe as hundreds of devotees drawn from different parts of Jammu thronged the temple since early in the morning. The special matadors were pressed into service on the Bahu Fort route to tackle the heavy rush of pilgtrtims. As per official reports till 6pm , about 15000 people have visited the Mata Kali Temple at Bhawe and as per reports that early till evening about thousands of pilgrims including a large number of women and children reached the base camp Katra to pay obeisance at the shrine of Vaishno Devi on the first day of Navratra which was celebrated with great religious fervor and gaiety. As per official reports about 27 0000 devotees have visted the holy shrine . Katra wore a festive look, since early morning people turned up in large numbers to perform puja and other religious rituals on the first day of the nine-day festival. Expecting huge rush, stringent security measures were put in place, and additional deployment of paramilitary forces was made in the district to ensure the security of the devotees reaching Katra from different states of the country.The area around Vaishno Devi Shrine was also sanitised and the troops deployed at many places en route to keep a check on the movement of suspected elements. “Lakhs of devotees visit the shrine in large numbers on Navratras. We have made all the arrangements and additional forces have been deployed to ensure the safety of the pilgrims,” Jugal Kishore Sharma, SDPO, Katra told “The devotees started visiting the shrine since early morning. The rush is increasing and we are expecting huge number of pilgrims, compared to last year,” he added. Sharma said that the state government has made all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the nine-day Navratra festival. Meanwhile, Navrata festival was celebrated with religious fervor and zeal across valley on Friday. Meanwhile temple in Srinagar city and other districts of the valley presented a festive look as scores of devotees’ thronged temples on the first day of the festival. Early Friday morning scores of devotees visited the Hanuman mandir in the heart of the city and performed Puja and other rituals to mark the beginning of the festival. Kashmiri Pandits celebrate the day as a beginning of the New Year and onset of spring after a chilly winter in Kashmir. |
