District-level awareness, periodical review meeting for Juvenile Justice, POCSO Act implementation held

KISHTWAR, Oct 7: A District-Level Awareness cum Periodical Review meeting focused on the effective implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 Model Rules 2016, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, was convened today at the District Court Complex in Kishtwar. The meeting, which took place in the Conference Hall at 3:30 P.M., aimed to enhance the coordination and execution of child protection laws across the district.
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kishtwar, led the proceedings, and several key district officials were present, including:
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar
Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA)
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar - tasked with ensuring the attendance of all Station House Officers (SHOs), In-Charges of Police Posts (I/C PP), Juvenile Welfare Officers (JWOs), Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs), among others.
Judicial Magistrates (First Class) from the district, along with the Incharge Principal Magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB)
Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Kishtwar
District Programme Officer, ICDS Kishtwar, ensuring the presence of all Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs).
District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Mission Vatsalya, Kishtwar, alongside the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) staff, Child Care Institutions (CCIs), and Specialized Adoption Agencies (SAA) staff.
Medical Superintendent, Kishtwar, who ensured the presence of the Medical/Physical Assessment Board.
Assistant Labour Commissioner, Kishtwar
Public Prosecutors and the Legal Aid Defence Counsel for the district.
Incharge of the Women Cell at Kishtwar Police Station.
The meeting focused on strengthening the mechanisms of child protection and ensuring all stakeholders were aligned in implementing the provisions of the Juvenile Justice and POCSO Acts. Discussion topics included the legal framework, responsibilities of law enforcement and child protection agencies, and strategies to improve the welfare and safety of children in vulnerable situations.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate urged all attending officers to reinforce inter-departmental coordination and maintain strict adherence to the protocols laid out by the Juvenile Justice and POCSO Acts.
The periodic review meetings are part of an ongoing effort to ensure the protection and care of children across the district, with specific emphasis on addressing cases of juvenile delinquency, child exploitation, and sexual offenses against minors.
This crucial gathering of officials reflects the district's commitment to upholding children's rights and ensuring justice and protection for the most vulnerable members of society.
