| CM rejects deceitful tactics to divide people | | Whether people voted for it or not, Govt will seek equitable development for all: Omar | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MARCH 27 – Rejecting divisive politics and deceitful tactics to create a wedge between various sections of the society for vested interests, Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah has said that the bond of amity in Jammu and Kashmir is so strong that no force could ever break it. Addressing a felicitation function organized by Associated Chamber of Traders Federation and Federation of Retailers Association at Zorawar Auditorium, here this evening, the Chief Minister said many attempts were made to destabilize the secular traits and love bonds in J&K but people foiled the designs of elements propagating hatred in the name of region or religion. Abdullah said his Government will nurture the secular traits and achieve economic progress for all regions and areas in an equitable manner. “Whether anybody has voted for us or not, the coalition government stands for every area and citizen of the State to seek peace, prosperity and progress without any consideration”, he maintained.
The Chief Minister said unfortunately the State witnessed a crucial phase in the middle of 2008 which derailed the process of progress and economic activity received a big jolt, adding trade, commerce and industry sectors suffered most of the brunt. He said all of us have to work together to rejuvenate the economic activities and develop the industrial sector. . Abdullah rejected the apprehension of certain sections of traders that the extension of railway line to the pilgrimage town of Katra would tell upon the economic activities of Jammu city. “Jammu is the winter capital of the State offering vast avenues for tourism, trade and industry. The coalition government would make all out efforts to upgrade the basic infrastructure for these sectors to give fillip to the economy and trade. If only 10 per cent pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine are diverted to Jammu, it would revolutionize the trade and tourism sectors, not to talk of 80 lakh yatris visiting the holy cave”, the Chief Minister said. He said Jammu is the City of Temples and there are a great number of heritage and tourist places which need to be showcased for global tourists. The government, he said, would also work vigorously in this direction. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather dwelt at length on the areas for development of trade and commerce in the State. Mr. Rather told the traders that while formulating the Annual Budget, he would seek suggestions from all sections of trade, commerce and industry besides economic experts. Slathia, in his speech said that from the day he has taken over the charge of the the Department, he has been in constant touch with the industrialists, traders and representatives of various trade and industrial chambers and federations.
