GDC Vijaypur celebrates World Habitat Day 2024

JAMMU, Oct 7: Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with Department of Geography of Government Degree College Vijaypur celebrated World Habitat Day 2024. The Programme started with the welcome address by Poonam Kundan, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, and elaborated on the theme, discussing how youth engagement can drive innovation and foster social change. She encouraged students to actively participate in discussions about urban development and to contribute ideas for improving their environments. The event aimed to inspire the younger generation to take initiative and lead efforts towards building a sustainable urban future. Students of the college actively participated in the Slogan Writing Competition on the theme "Engaging Youth for a Better Urban Future." First position was achieved by Ranjit Kaur of B.Sc. Semester III, Second position was attained by Palak Panotra of BA Semester III and third position was secured by Avijeet Kumar of B.Sc. Semester III. The competition was adjudged by Prof. Mamta Gupta (HOD Commerce), Dr. Anoop Bhagat (HOD Sociology) and Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD Education). Dr. Vandana Verma, the Principal of the College highlighted the vital role that young people play in shaping sustainable cities. She emphasized that empowering youth to participate in urban planning and environmental initiatives is essential for creating vibrant, resilient communities. Principal of the college, Dr. Vandana Verma appreciated the efforts of the students for their active participation. The whole event was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Sciences) and Prof. Meetu Sharma (HOD Geography) and co-coordinated by Prof. Ritu Bhagat (HOD, Education) and Dr. Naseem Choudhary (HOD, English).
