| GCW Udhampur celebrates annual day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, MARCH 27 - Government College for Women, Udhampur celebrated its Annual Day-cum-Prize Distribution function, here Thursday evening. Commissioner/Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Mr. N. K. Verma was the chief guest while Director, Colleges, Department of Higher Education, Dr. N. D. Wani presided over the function. Principal of the host institution, Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principals of various colleges, former principals, academicians, intellectuals, faculty members, non-teaching staff members and a large number of students were present on the occasion. Verma appreciated the efforts made by the college management and students in the upliftment of the institution and for making it an epitome of learning. He hoped the college would continue its efforts amidst challenges with the same zeal and take all adequate measures to produce best brains for tomorrow, who are competent to take up the tasks of national development. Highlighting the importance of annual day, the chief guest said it was an occasion to introspect the achievements made in academics and other co-curricular activities during the academic session. After reviewing the performance of the students of the college in different streams, the Commissioner/Secretary commented that they were not lagging behind in comparison to reputed colleges of the State. On the occasion, Mr. Verma also released Newsletter of the college titled Campus News. The students of the college also presented a colourful cultural programme including folk dances, skits and group songs which were highly appreciated by the audience. Simranpreet Kour was adjudged best all round student of the year and was given a merit certificate and a trophy. The Principal of the College, Dr. Bakshi read the annual report and highlighted the performance and various activities conducted by the institution during the current year. Later,. Verma distributed prizes and mementoes among the meritorious students of the college who excelled in academics, NCC, NSS, sports and other co-curricular activities.Staff Secretary of the college, Prof. B. S. Chib presented the vote-of-thanks while proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Aksa. Earlier, the function began with lighting of the lamp and recital of Shloka Vandna. |
