EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, MARCH 27 - Arrangements for smooth conduct of Lok Sabha Election 2009, slated to be held on April 23, 2009 in Udhampur, were reviewed at a meeting of Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) and Tehsildars held under the Chairmanship of District Election Officer (DEO), Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria, here last evening.
Exhorting upon the AROs and Tehsildars, the DEO underlined the need of keeping him abreast about their day-to-day activities with regard to Lok Sabha polls like preparation and updating of electoral rolls, EPICs, checking of EVMs, EVM training to poll staff, physical verification of polling stations, security, transport and other allied requirements so that issues could be sorted out at the nick of time.
While reviewing the status of checking of pilot prints of electoral rolls, the Tehsildars informed the meeting that the job stood completed while as the checking of EVMs has already been started for which the DEO asked the concerned to submit report to him for onward transmission to the Chief Electoral Office every day, as per standing instructions.
The Tehsildars were also directed to maintain a register to track instances of violations by various candidates and their campaigners, besides circulating Model Code of Conduct to political parties and polling agents. They were also directed to furnish a comprehensive list of visually-impaired voters besides submission of gender-wise final electorate data to DEO.
It was decided in the meeting that District Social Welfare Officer, Udhampur, Mr. Anil Sharma would draft election plan by or before March 30, 2009 and Executive Engineer, REW, Udhampur, V. K. Sharma would function as Liaison Officer to Election Observer. Headquarters Assistant to DC was asked to look into the arrangements of accommodation, Internet connection, Fax machine, Sim Card and essential staff for the Election Observer by keeping the DEO informed daily.
It was also decided in the meeting that Media Centre in Udhampur would be set up by April 1, 2009 which, in addition, to his routine job of disseminating election-related news to electronic and print media, would provide newspaper clippings to Election Observer everyday in the morning.
Chief Planning Officer, Mr. H. H. Dutt, Chief Agriculture Officer, Mr. Pratap Singh, Project Officer, DPAP, Assistant Commissioner, Development, District Social Welfare Officer, Executive Engineer, Rural Engineering Wing, District Apiculture Development Officer, Tehsildar Ramnagar, Chenani, Majalta and Udhampur were also present in the meeting. |
