Er Rashid’s proposal puts political parties in quandary
10/7/2024 10:42:24 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 7: Although former Chief Minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah dubbed him as a “BJP man” involved in sabotaging the formation of a popular government, Sheikh Abdul Rashid aka Engineer Rashid suggest to delay the formation of the new regime has put political parties in a difficult situation. Chairman of the Awami Ittihad Party and Member Parliament from Baramulla Engineer Rashid on Monday urged all political parties not to form a government until statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir.
“I call on all political parties, including the INDIA bloc, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Apni Party, and others, to unite and refuse to form a government until statehood is reinstated,” Rashid stated during a press interaction.
He emphasized that the new government if formed now, would be limited in its authority as it would govern a Union Territory, not a state.
He added that even if a party or coalition secures a majority, it would be in the best interest of all political groups to come together and press the central government for the restoration of statehood. “The AIP is ready to collaborate with other parties in pursuit of this shared goal,” he assured.
Rashid concluded his appeal by urging all parties to prioritize the rights and interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “We must unite for statehood and work together to ensure our voices are heard.”
Former Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah reacted sharply to Engineer Rashid’s proposal. Abdullah accused Rashid of playing into the hands of the BJP to prolong central rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The man spends 24 hours in Delhi and returns to serve the BJP’s agenda. Nothing would please the BJP more than extending central rule in J&K if they can’t form a government,” Omar posted on social media.
