Early Times Report
Jammu :As the Lok Sabha polls are nearing with every passing day, electioneering in the Kashmir division is yet to pick up as most players are hesitant to take the first leap.
In Kashmir and Leh division the parties including ruling national conference and the congress are trapped in a quagmire. Sources told that none of the parties have finalized their respective candidates and as a result the campaigning is yet to begin.
Interestingly, it is for the first time that security scenario in Kashmir division is far more encouraging than what was witnessed before the assembly elections.
The security scenario in Kashmir division is very favorable,” a senior police official, who wished not to be named, told . He said that across Kashmir division security forces have maintained a high level of alertness resulting in improvement in the overall situation.
Importantly, army officials had expressed some fears about infiltration bids from across the border. However, these fears too have proved off beam as most of the infiltration bids were foiled.
Surprisingly, campaigning in Kashmir division failed to kick start as most of the star campaigners were not available in the state. Besides, the weather too played a spoil sport as it had been raining intermittently for the last two weeks.
“Congress is planning in a big way to start electioneering in the state,” senior congress leader, Abdul Gani Vakil told Press Bureau of India. He said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA, Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will campaign for the parliamentary elections in the state.
“senior congress leader and MoS Prime Minister’s office, Prithvi Ral Chauhan too has arrived in Jammu today to chalk a programme in this regard,” Vakil added.
Meanwhile, National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah has been short listed as a star campaigner for the Congress party. The senior Abdullah will be campaigning in states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
“Farooq sahab’s campaign will give a big boost to the Congress,” a senior congress leader said. He said that Farooq Abdullah is seen as a secular and the most out spoken leader who can impress upon the masses with telling effect.
