| PDP to pursue the pro- peace agenda: Mufti | | | Early Times report Jammu, Mar28- Calling upon the people to compare performance of his three year tenure with the decades long mis-governance of successive National Conference led regimes, former Chief Minister and patron of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that in span of just three years, the PDP led regime has carved out a path of peace and equitable development in Jammu and Kashmir. Kicking off election campaign in Jammu in support of party candidate Trilok Singh Bajwa, the PDP patron expressed surprise that National Conference and Congress have entered into an alliance without any program and policy. ”As far as the performance of this alliance is concerned, it appears only on papers and nothing concrete is visible on the ground”, he said, adding, “three month is adequate period to assess functioning of a government”. He reminded the gathering that during campaign of the assembly elections, National Conference had made a number of promises with the people but these promises are yet to be translated into reality. “We will not remain a mute spectator to the misdeeds of the government”, he asserted “We have enough strengthen in the assembly to keep a check on the anti-people steps of the government” adding, “just to grab the power, National Conference and Congress has entered into an alliance without forming Common Minimum Program (CMP) and without evolving consensus on vital issues”. He opined that formation of CMP was must for running a coalition regime and recalled that despite having just 16 members in its kitty PDP had entered into an alliance with Congress after senior leadership of the Congress high command including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who was at that time leader of the opposition, had formulated the CMP and incorporated main demands of the PDP in it. Reiterating resolve of his party to pursue the pro-peace agenda, he said that PDP has pioneered a reconciliatory policy and peace process which was endorsed by the successive regimes at New Delhi and Islamabad. "PDP has shown in the past that it can facilitate the resolution process with prudence, and it is ready to shoulder the responsibility of taking the process to its logical conclusion," Sayeed said. “In 2002 we had only 16 members but still we had pursued the peace process and established peace in this region. It was due to the efforts of the PDP that peace was restored in the sub-continent”, he said. Party candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, Trilok Singh, Ved Mahajan, Rangil Singh, general secretary Daman Bhasin, former Minister Manjit Singh, Falail Singh, Shanti Devi, H R Chargota, Baldev Singh Slathia and R K Bali also addressed the rally.
