Natrang presents thought-provoking performance of "Reed-Rahit" at Jammu studio theatre

JAMMU, Oct 13: Natrang Theatre Group captivated audiences today with a powerful presentation of the Hindi adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play Nincompoop, titled Reed-Rahit, at its Studio Theatre in the ongoing Sunday Theatre Series. Directed by Neeraj Kant, the play serves as an inspiration for those who struggle to stand up for their rights and challenges audiences to reflect on their own sense of self-worth.
Reed-Rahit is set in the home of a wealthy landlord who confronts Mohan, a humble instructor and domestic helper, over unpaid wages. Mohan, who has been patiently waiting for two months to be compensated, is subjected to an unjust reduction of his dues. The landlord, in a dramatic ploy, tells Mohan that after exaggerated deductions, he is only owed Rs. 1,100, despite the agreed amount of Rs. 8,000. To the landlord's dismay, the naive and submissive Mohan accepts this paltry sum without protest.
Frustrated by Mohan's lack of courage to demand what is rightfully his, the landlord bursts into anger and delivers a crucial lesson on the importance of self-respect and the dignity of labor. He urges Mohan to speak up for himself and not allow others to exploit him, emphasizing that remaining silent in the face of injustice guarantees continued exploitation. In a dramatic turn, the landlord ultimately pays Mohan the full Rs. 8,000, concluding his experiment with a profound message on standing up for one's rights.
The play's simple yet impactful narrative resonated deeply with the audience, leaving a lasting impression about the consequences of submission and the importance of asserting one's self-worth.
The performance featured Natrang actors Aadesh Dhar, Mihir Gujral, and Vandana Thakur, who brought their characters to life with skillful portrayals. Neeraj Kant handled the lighting and music, while Brijesh Avatar Sharma presented the play to the audience. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen.
The Sunday Theatre Series continues to provide a platform for socially relevant and thought-provoking performances, and Reed-Rahit stands as a testament to the strength of Natrang's artistic direction and dedication to meaningful theatre.
