Div Com reviews poll arrangements in Udhampur

Udhampur, Mar 28-To review the arrangements for ensuing Lok Sabha Election in district Udhampur, the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal convened a meeting of officers of different departments engaged in the conduct of poll process, here today.
District Election Officer, Ajay Khajuria, Senior Superintendent of Police, Surinder Gupta, Assistant Project Director, DRDA, Assistant Commissioner, Development, ARTO, Executive Engineers of PHE, PWD, PDD, District Informatics Officer, District Social Welfare Officer and Tehsildars attended the meeting.
Detailed review of arrangements including status of EPICs and EVMs, polling stations, electoral rolls, deployment of staff, Training schedule, transport and communication plan, media management and security deployment was undertaken in the meeting.
Expressing satisfaction over the smooth conduct of Assembly elections in the district held recently, the Divisional Commissioner stressed upon the officers to put in their sincere, dedicated and coordinated efforts in ensuring all arrangements all made well in tune so that the Lok Election slated to be held on April 23, 2009 in the district culminates smoothly. He further exhorted upon the officers to be vigilant and impartial in accomplishing the whole poll process strictly under the guidelines of Election Commission of India.
He directed the Assistant Returning Officers to further instruct the Presiding Officers for keeping their mobiles on and well charged a day of before scheduled date of voting so that in case of any inconvenience in the conduct of poll process, they could contact their respective Zonal and Sectoral Magistrates immediately for instant solution of the problem.
Dwelling on the EVM training aspect of Presiding and Polling Officers, Dr. Kotwal urged the District Election Officer to impart training to the polling staff from experts so that poll related staff may not face any problem in the conduct of poll on the date of polling. He also asked for special EVM training sessions for visually impaired voters so that they could also exercise their right of franchise without any difficulty.
The District Election Officer apprised that a total of 2,84,891 electorates comprising of 1,50,461 male and 1, 34, 430 females would cast their votes on the scheduled date of polling in 389 polling stations set up in the district which include 139 in Udhampur constituency, 108 in Chenani-Ghordi and 142 in Ramnagar constituency. He further said that 598 Ballot Units and 469 Control Units were available with the district where first level check of EVMs was in progress.
Briefing about the security plan for the polls, the SSP said that security deployment plan has already been worked out with adequate communication network to ensure culmination of poll process smoothly and peacefully by keeping a strict vigil.
Later, the Divisional Commissioner accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur inspected the already identified sites for the construction of FCI Godown and proposed site for setting up of Polytechnic College near Udhampur. He also visited Sudhmahadev to check the proposed alternate road link from Sudhmahadev to Marmat connecting Doda district and site for construction of proposed hotel Management Institute near Sudhmahadev.
