PM GatiShakti
10/14/2024 10:54:16 PM
The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP), launched on October 13, 2021, marks a pivotal moment in India’s journey toward achieving infrastructure excellence.
Designed to provide multi-modal connectivity to various economic zones, the plan is transforming the development landscape by driving faster and more efficient infrastructure growth across sectors.
As a holistic initiative, GatiShakti embodies a new approach that synergizes infrastructure development with economic growth, aiming for sustainable development that reaches every corner of the nation.
At its core, PM GatiShakti is guided by seven key engines: railways, roads, ports, waterways, airports, mass transport, and logistics infrastructure. This multi-dimensional strategy ensures that different modes of transportation and logistics are interconnected, resulting in seamless connectivity across the country. By integrating these sectors, the plan breaks down traditional silos, allowing for synchronized planning and execution across various government departments and agencies. The unified approach prevents project delays and cost overruns, which have long been bottlenecks in India’s infrastructure development.
The plan’s multi-modal connectivity ensures that the nation’s vast and varied geography is connected efficiently. For instance, the integration of roads, railways, and waterways in transporting goods not only enhances logistical efficiency but also reduces carbon emissions, supporting India’s commitment to sustainability.
By boosting connectivity in remote and economically lagging regions, GatiShakti fosters inclusive growth, enabling these areas to participate in and benefit from the national economy.
Another transformative aspect of PM GatiShakti is its focus on modernizing infrastructure to meet global standards. The plan embraces the use of technology and data-driven planning, utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS)-based systems to map projects and facilitate coordinated execution.
The National Master Plan’s digital portal integrates data from various ministries and departments, enabling decision-makers to make informed choices and track progress in real time. This technological intervention reduces administrative delays and enhances transparency, making the entire process more efficient.
The initiative also addresses the logistical challenges faced by industries. By developing dedicated freight corridors and strengthening last-mile connectivity, GatiShakti enhances the ease of doing business in India. This is particularly beneficial for manufacturing, agriculture, and exports, as it minimizes transportation costs and delivery times. Enhanced connectivity to ports and airports streamlines supply chains, making Indian goods more competitive in the global market.
Furthermore, PM GatiShakti is instrumental in achieving India’s ambition to become a $5 trillion economy. The plan’s infrastructure development creates a multiplier effect, generating employment opportunities across sectors and boosting economic growth. For the manufacturing sector, improved logistics and transportation infrastructure lead to greater efficiency, helping industries optimize production processes and expand operations. In turn, this growth spurs demand for raw materials, services, and skilled labor, contributing to a thriving economic ecosystem.
