Training of Master Trainers for Hazard Resistant Construction Practices Begins at JUIT

JAMMU, Oct 15: A specialized training program for Master Trainers on Hazard Resistant Safe Construction Practices commenced today at the Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat. Organized by the Civil Engineering Department of JUIT in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Shimla, the program is aimed at promoting disaster-resilient construction techniques.
Vice Chancellor Prof. RK Sharma inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of constructing hazard-resistant buildings in disaster-prone regions. He highlighted the need to extend this crucial training to professionals at the grassroots level to ensure widespread adoption of safe construction practices.
The training program was initiated under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of DDMA Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, whose dedication to enhancing disaster preparedness was pivotal in launching this initiative.
Dr. Tanmay Gupta, Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department and coordinator of the event, addressed the participants, linking the program to the celebration of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDRR). He explained the program's blend of practical and theoretical components, which aim to equip engineers with essential skills for safer construction.
Dean of Academics and Research, Prof. Ashok Gupta, stressed the importance of adhering to building codes and regulations to ensure the safety and resilience of structures. Prof. Ashish Kumar, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, expressed his gratitude to the participants and extended his best wishes for a successful three-day training.
The event saw the participation of 26 Assistant Engineers (AE) and Junior Engineers (JE) from Shimla District. These participants will become master trainers, passing on vital knowledge about safe construction practices to ensure disaster preparedness at the grassroots level. The training will run until October 16, focusing on heritage preservation and codal provisions for disaster-resilient
