GGM Science College organizes workshop on "Virtual Labs"

JAMMU, Oct 15: Virtual Lab Nodal Centre (VLNC) -205, which was established by IIT Bombay in Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College Jammu, J&K UT, organized a workshop on "Virtual Labs in Biotechnology" in which a large number of students and faculty members participated. Workshop was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal, GGM Science College Jammu in presence of Dr. Ashaq Hussian, and Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Nodal Coordinator VLNC, Dr. Arun Sharma, Outreach Coordinator VLNC & Prof. Kiran Bala, HOD Biotechnology, Dr. Rohit, Assistant Professor Zoology and Prof. Richa Sharma. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the College lauded the efforts of virtual lab team for organizing one day workshop for the students and faculty of theCollege. In his deliberations, he encouraged all science teachers as well as students to use the virtual labs as add on to the physical labs. Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Associate Professor in Chemistry & Nodal Coordinator, VLNC GGM Science College in his inaugural talk gave a detail of various features, objectives and advantages of Virtual Labs, which is a mission project developed under the aegis of National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD. He said that with the rapid growth of information and communication technologies (ICT), virtual laboratories are becoming an integral part of science and technical curriculum. The technical session which included demonstration and hands on session of simulation based experiments in Biotechnology was conducted by Dr. Neha Mahajan, Asstt Professor in Biotechnology. She explained to the students simulation based experiments on the topic "Agarose Gel Electrophoresis " developed by Amrita Virtual Lab through virtual mode very efficiently. The second technical session in the discipline of Biotechnology was conducted by Prof. Gourav Gupta, Departmental Coordinator and Assistant Professor in Biotechnology. In his delibrations, he explained simulation based experiments on the topic Cell Count by Hemocytometer.
