Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 17: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Dogra College of Education successfully conducted a two-day series of extension lectures on "Herbartian and RCEM Approaches" on October 16 and 17, 2024. The event, held in the Conference Hall of Dogra Educational Complex, was attended by 30 students from B.Ed., Semester 3rd, Session (2023-25), fostering an enriching learning atmosphere.
The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by esteemed dignitaries, followed by a warm welcome address by Dr. Shefali Sharma, IQAC Coordinator at Dogra College of Education. In her opening remarks, Dr. Shefali emphasized the importance of such extension lectures in promoting professional development among faculty and enhancing the teaching abilities of future educators.
Dr. Sushma Bala, Associate Professor at the Government College of Education, Jammu, served as the resource person for the event.
Day 1 Dr. Bala focused on the Herbartian approach, developed by Johann Friedrich Herbart in the 19th century. She provided a comprehensive explanation of its five-step process: preparation, presentation, association, generalization, and application. Through a detailed lesson plan, she demonstrated how teachers can engage students by linking new concepts to their prior knowledge, thus promoting critical thinking and retention.
Day 2 was dedicated to the RCEM approach, which integrates modern educational practices with traditional methods. Dr. Bala outlined the 17 mental abilities identified by the RCEM approach, emphasizing their role in cognitive development. Using practical examples and a demonstration, she illustrated how the RCEM framework can be applied to create an interactive and inclusive classroom environment.
The event also featured a lively Q&A session, where students and faculty interacted with Dr. Bala to explore the practical implementation of these teaching methods.
Dr. Vikesh Kumar Sharma, Principal of Dogra College of Education, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for Dr. Bala's engaging and insightful presentations. He lauded the IQAC team for organizing the event, highlighting its significance in enriching the academic experience for both students and faculty. He encouraged students to incorporate the concepts into their future teaching practice.
Dr. Shefali Sharma extended her gratitude to Dr. Bala, praising the blend of theoretical insights and practical applications offered during the sessions. She emphasized that the approaches discussed would empower future educators to become more reflective and adaptive in their teaching methodologies.
The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Vintee Kumari, Sr. Lecturer, Dogra College of Education, who appreciated the resource person's efforts in making the event a valuable learning experience for all attendees. The event concluded with the playing of the National Anthem.
