Be considerate with traders during festive season : Warehouse Federation
10/18/2024 11:15:05 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 18: Traders Federation Ware House-Nehru Market Jammu on Friday urged State Taxes Department(GST) to deal with the trader fraternity of the region considerately and facilitate them to make up the losses they have incurred during last couple of years due to COVID-19 pandemic and law and order problems in the UT. A meeting held under the Presidentship of Deepak Gupta in the Federation office on Friday wherein office bearers discussed various issues concerning traders of Jammu city. Deepak Gupta said that the GST Department should show a considerate view towards the traders' fraternity and not impose unnecessary restrictions on the name of inspections in this Festive season as the business community is already facing a lot of hardships. He said that Currently, the festive season is going on and traders are expecting good business but due to few officers of the department, businessmen are facing a lot of difficulties. Raising the issue of unnecessary checking after Lakhanpur, Deepak Gupta said that Jammu and Kashmir is a UT, where up to 90 percent of food items come from other states. We import almost everything. In such a situation, whatever goods come to us, we have already paid GST on them. Nevertheless, all the goods are checked in Lakhanpur. Now, when all the goods are checked in Lakhanpur, then what is the point of checking by putting nakas at various places? This is just to harass the traders. He demanded that there should be only one check post after Lakhanpur to check goods transporting from Jammu to Kashmir. Apart from this, there should be no check post or naka in Jammu. He alleged that GST deptt. officials are hell bent to damage their business interests by putting Nakas at Various places enroute from Lakhanpur to Banihal and harassing the members of trading community by resorting to undue checking of their vehicles carring goods from Lakhanpur to Banihal. He termed this whole process as useless because whatever material they are bringing from outside, has already been checked by the GST department at Lakhanpur and they fulfilled all the formalities by submitting GST through e-way bill. Hence there is no need to further check their vehicles by the authorities. By doing so they are just resorting to harassment of the traders. Gupta urged upon Hon'ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Hon'ble Dy. Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary to intervene so that the traders of Jammu may heave a sigh of relief.
Munish Mahajan, Sr. Vc. President, Abhimanyu Gupta, Vc. President, Sham Lal Langer, General Secretary and Vishal Gupta, Secretary of the Federation, Rajesh Bhagotra, President Sugar Merchant Association, Kirti Gupta, President Dal Merchant Association, Ajay Gupta, President Onion & Potato Merchant Association, Anil Gupta, President Karyana Merchant Association, Rajesh Gupta, former President Traders Federation and Rattan Lal Gupta, Former President Traders Federation was also present in the meeting.
