9/22/2006 8:48:27 PM

Srinagar, Sep 22: The Jammu and Kashmir government has directed its revenue department to assess the damage caused by hailstorms that lashed parts of the state on Tuesday to expedite disbursement of relief.

The Cabinet, which met here last evening with Health and Medical Education minister Mangat Ram Sharma in the chair, also directed the departments concerned to seek financial assistance from the Calamity Relief Fund for the affected families, an official spokesman said here today.

Hailstorms lashed wide parts of north and south Kashmir on Tuesday causing huge losses to standing crops and fruits.

The cabinet also reviewed the post-flood scenario, directing the authorities to ensure implementation of relief measures and asked the departments concerned to approach the Central government for early release of funds.
