‘Adopts resolution for inclusion of Gojri in 8th schedule of Constitution’ Kathua, Mar 29- The 2-day Gojri conference which concluded here today adopted several resolutions seeking inclusion of Gojri language in the 8th Scheduled of the Constitution of India, opening of Dogri Department in the Universities both at Srinagar and Jammu, introduction of Gojri language in the syllabi up to 12th standard and declaring Gojri speaking people as ethno-linguistic minority, besides strengthening Gojri wing of State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The participants at the conference which included writers, poets, intellectuals and observers also demanded recognition of Gojri language by Sahatiya Akademi and proper representation in Doordarshan and Radio Kashmir day to day programs. Addressing the concluding session of the conference prominent Gojri scholar Ch. M S Wasil said that the writer fraternity of Gujjar tribe must understand their duties and act in accordance with the tribal psyche of the community. He impressed upon the intellectual section of the community to join hands for faster development of modern Gojri literature and work hard for preservation of century’s old tradition of Gujjars. Describing the two day deliberations at the conference as historic one, Dr. Javaid Rahi, Head of Gojri Wing of JKAACL said it has far reaching impact on the development of Gojri Language and Culture. He said that the outcome of this event was quite encouraging and the suggestions would be considered while formulating new policies about Gojri. Ch Naseem Poonchi in his presidential remarks said that Gojri is facing a big threat due to rapid development and we should formulate programs so that this oldest language could be preserved for all generations to come. He said on the other hand we must take the advantage of latest technology for promotion of Gojri. Earlier, Padam Bhushan Mian Bashir Ahmed was honoured by Academy for his contributions towards Gujjars.
