Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 29- The Governor, N. N. Vohra, has called for completion of the Cancer Hospital, which is part of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Kakryal, by December this year. He was addressing the 2nd Governing Council meeting of the SMVDIME, here today. He emphasized the vital need for the time-bound completion of all components of the Hospital to avoid time and cost over-runs and to make the hospital functional within a fixed time frame, to benefit the people at the earliest. The Governor said that a PERT/CPM chart should be drawn up so that all the components like completion of the infrastructure, purchase and installation of equipment, positioning of the staff etc synchronize with each other and the entire project becomes functional by the targeted date. He emphasized that there is need for proceeding in an entirely methodical manner to fuse one activity with another to achieve the set goal. The meeting approved the draft recruitment rules and the bye-laws as well as various other agenda items after detailed discussions. These included an identification of the super-specialties to be established in the first phase, a calendar for the purchase of equipment, etc. Cancer cases are on the rise in the state, particularly in the Jammu region. Last year the Government Medical College in Jammu received more than 1,400 new cases, followed by more than 1,300 in 2007, 1,266 in 2006, 1,185 in 2005, 1,168 in 2004, 1,058 in 2003, 996 in 2002, 952 in 2000, 901 in 1999, 937 in 1998 and 803 in 1997. The Governing Council approved the award of contract for interior work, boiler works, construction of dharamshala, guest house for the visiting faculty, patients’ inn, accommodation for doctors and para-medical staff. The Council also approved that specific services like laundry and kitchen and bio-medical waste management would be out-sourced, initially. The members of the Governing Council made several valuable suggestions for fixing firm time-lines for the various components of this prestigious project of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Earlier, in his PowerPoint presentation, the Director, SMVDIME, Lt.Gen (Retd) L. P. Sadhotra, gave a status of the various components of the upcoming Institute.
